Hello,

The Tyros is a complete keyboard with good styles, good voices, vocalist and a option to built in a hard drive.

There are good voices like guitar, strings,
vibes, ... (some voice i prefer the sd1 of ketron) The styles are fantastic good and real. I love the drumkits and the intro and endings (they are very good !!!)
Shame for his short keyboardsize (61 keys).
A good database with good registrations.
(database like the cvp 209 piano of yamaha with new styles of the tyros).
Some sounds are weak of sound.

I have made 14 short demo's on the tyros.
Some with the "session" styles , they have a special dimension on sound (using mostly the yamaha megavoices) Other styles are the prostyles (you find some also on the psr9000 pro but now with the new tyros sounds.)

Can i send these files to someone who can upload them on his site for the synthzone-members.
Thanks already.
Regards,

Dear Notlos,

I would be more than pleased to offer these mp3 files for downloading at www.tyrosworld.com. If you can email them to me or upload them to the files area in the tyrosworld discussion group (link from tyrosworld.com) then I'll copy them over and create links. Perhaps you could also let me have a short description of each file.

Kindest regards
Simon Williams

I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of Dirk's 'Tyros' demos.

The jazz ballad solo really shimmers with awesome realism, and the guitar & horn solos on Brazil sparkle and make the song come alive. In addition, the Yamaha styles are veryimpressive, and NOT boring whatsover. AWESOME !

The only thing better than the outstanding Tyros mega voices, is Dirk's SUPERB musicianship. Dirk's keen sense of musical timing (phrasing) and dynamics is UN-SURPASSED. I really look forward to hearing Dirk's other 12 Tyros demos SOON !

Dirk, btw, were your Tyros songs all recorded live straight off the Tyros in auto accomp arranger mode? No additional tracks or post processing added later (EFX etc)?

Dirk: MANY thanks again for sharing.

Scott

Hi scott,

All the files i made are live playing.
I have recorded it on sunday evening, only with the styles left and the solo right playing.
other demo's are :
I've got you under my skin
dindi
honysuckle rose
sci-fi
vivo sohando
red roses for a blue lady
brazil
jazz ballad
style demo varia
pink panter
etc...
Only the "jazz ballad" i have used the two intro's 1 bar of the second variation and the ending !!!! that's only the tyros !!!
You have asked me how i did that and the credits go full to the tyros here!!!!
The demo's of the sd1 : I don't have them anymore, since i have a new computer there are all erased(mp3).
All the effect on the tyros are standard with the registrations by yamaha.
Regards,
Notlos www.mp3.com/dirkbaert

I'm really impressed that everything was recorded on the Tyros in LIVE auto accomp mode , and that that no post processing (efx) or additional tracks were added later. This clearly shows how good the Tyros can sound when you are performing LIVE (on the gig) in auto accomp mode. Of course, in addition to showcasing the Tyros, these demos are a testament to Dirk's superb musicianship. It's wise to realize that your mileage may vary. I also want to commend Notlos' on what I think is an excellent choice of demo tune titles. Dirk: Please let us know WHEN and WHERE we can download them. - Scott

I believe Dirk can make ANY keyboard sound great with his chops & musicianship.

Dirk: Every one of your Tyros song demos sound TERRIFIC ! Though I recognize most of the styles from my PSR2000, the new mega voices and Yamaha's re-sequencing of the styles (at 1,920 ppq) really add new LIFE to the styles and sound vastly improved! The styles are definitely NOT dull & boring as Yamaha's styles have had the past reputation for. The Tyros is definitely a groundbreaking board in SOUND. Ok, WHEN is the Tyros actually going to reach on a surfboard? the West Coast of California, USA? . . .

Thanks again Dirk for devoting your valuable time to this Tyros demo project.

- Scott

btw: I also re-listened to Dirk's SD1 demos (Autumn Leaves, One Note Samba, and Ipanema)as well and was really impressed with these as well. I'm particularly impressed with the SD1 acoustic piano sound. You can still temporarily download (if you HURRY), Dirk's SD1 rendition of Autumn Leaves on Andrea Rotolo's site here:
http://andrearotolo.tripod.com/dreamer/id12.html

Many thanks to Andrea for providing it. It will be interesting to hear people's opinion/comparison of the SD1 and the Tyros listening to Dirk's demos of BOTH keyboards.

There are a number of other popular songs in the lower table on the Tyrosworld MP3 page by the way were mainly recorded by Claude Seguin, one of the first french members of our group to own a Tyros. I asked Dirk last night if he had any Brazilian influence, well my wife is Brazilian and when she heard Dirk's mp3's she asked me he must have been to Brazil! His style is so natural. Dirk, please feel free to provide any more mp3's on the tyros for me to add to Tyros....

Hang on... my phones ringing.........

WOW!!!!! That was my dealer, they have just received my Tyros, stand and speakers and will be sending it out today! :-)

BTW, I've listened to all the demos on your page and they are all excellent. Again thanks for providing the space for them.

dnj,
They must be somewhat different just for the use of the mega voices. Plus I don't think they are supposed to be all brand new styles, just improved is what I get.

Donny: As I stated above, I too agree with you that the styles sound pretty similar (SAME?) to what I hear on my PSR2000 as well. It's those new 'mega voices' which bring new spark & realism to the guitar & bass parts, but . . .

the BIG DISAPPOINTING thing I discovered, listening to the Tyros demos, is that the Tyros appears to be MISSING the terrific life like SAX & TRUMPET sounds I've grown to enjoy on the PSR2000/9000. Yamaha appears to have replaced the Tyros SAX & TRUMPET sounds with weak and thin disappointing replacements. This is most apparent on "I've Got You Under My Skin" where the sax 'fills' sound like a sick duck sqwaking, and the horns lack any spark or realism whatsoever.

It seems that Yamaha took a BIG step forward with the impressive Mega Voices (guitars, strings), but then fell BACKWARD again with the terribly unimpressive horns & woodwinds. Anyone else notice this?

dnj,
The styles are pretty similar but with new spark added. Does that warrant stepping from the 9k to the Tyros? Perhaps not, does it warrant buying the Tyros over the 9k perhpas so, it depends on the differences in other features and what each one needs.

Scott,
As far as the horns. I noticed it more on fast passages then I did on the slow ones where it sounded good. I think the sweet horns though sounds as good or better such as the "sweet soprano sax". The other thing that perhaps needs to be taken into account is playing style and how any instrument sounds. It will be hard to tell for sure until each person gets their hands on one and plays with their style of play and hear what comes out. IMO
jam on,
Terry

On a side note, Dirk has some wonderful midi files available here: http://www.laurasmidiheaven.com/Original/cgi/dbmdisplay2.cgi?mailkey=dirk.baert1@pandora.be&action=oneartist&h=Dirk%20Baert I think these were made on the Ketron SD1 but I'm not positive. If the URL link is too long and doesn't connect to the site just go to Lauras Midi Heaven, "Originals", "View all artists" (or do a name search): Dirk Baert. These are especially good midi sequences that sound extraordinarily good (for "Midi" as apposed to MP3, or CD), "especially through an external sound source". I play them through my PSR 2000 which outputs to an external Amp, Mixer, and good speakers/with a Sub. The Midi's are mostly Jazz and Latin and if you gig these would be especially appropriate during breaks, etc. in most situations. (Must have a disk drive of course.) Kudos to Dirk for his fantastic chops and beautiful playing style. If Dirk's day job is not in music, it should be and that's the absolute truth.

Best regards,
Mike

Scott,

One of the reasons I returned the 2000 and 9000 to Guitar Center was because the saxes, clarinets, and brass could not begin to compare to the similar sounds on my X1. I played them side by side. Our big band has 5 saxes in it so I know how a sax should sound. I felt that the Sweet? Live or Cool soparano sax (whatever they called it) sounded good in about a four note range. The sweet tenor and whatever they call the trumpet sounded thin and fake. It sounds like the Tyros might not be much better in that department. Where I felt the Yamaha excelled was at the guitars. They were much better than the Ketron guitars. I do love the Yamaha vocal processing and harmonizer. It beats the rest hands down. IMHO

Dirk could make a Bontempi sound good. He is AWESOME! I love his rendetion of Autumn Leaves. I'll have to wait till tomorrow to hear his Tyros demos.

Regards,

Tom

Hi Tom: I agree with you that the Ketron's Saxes' sound terrific. I do think the PSR2000's sax's sound pretty dammed good though, especially considering the $1,000 price of the 2000. The nearly 3 times more expensive Tyros' horns & woodwinds , on the 'other hand', are a tremendous disappoint, and unless Dirk's MP3's are hiding something here, I don't think I could bear downgrading from PSR2000's horns & woodwinds to the almost 3x priced Tyros's horns & woodwinds. I'm still anxiously waiting to find out if others here got the same impression about the Tyros' horn & woodwind instruments too. Please listen to Dirk's demo song of: "I've Got You Under My Skin" and tell me if you agree or not that the sax & horns just don't sound very good. On the other hand, Dirk's keyboard performance was absolutely TERRIFIC !

Scott

Scott,
as you know and as I have already written, that is exactly my opinion too and I think that Roel thought the same when he tried the Tyros.

Dirk (Notlos): If you don't mind me asking, I'm curious to hear WHICH 'specific' voices you 'personally' prefer on the SD1 over Tyros? Are these voices included in the XD9 as well? Also WHICH specific Tyros voices do you think are 'weak in sound'? Are they by any chance the Tyros sax, horns, woodwinds, and orchetral sounds I had mentioned? Thanks. - Scott
